We are pleased this week to launch our 2012-13 Prospectus!

As our prospectus is often the first contact a prospective student has with us, it is important that we portray an accurate and lasting first impression. This year we have reduced the size of our 2012-13 Prospectus in order for it to fit in a handbag for ease of use and distribution. We also took the decision to use some brighter colours and imagery after feedback from students about last years’ prospectus.

The biggest development with the 2012-13 Prospectus however is the introduction of some brand new Health and Wellbeing courses!

LCBT are pleased this year to be able to offer a range of new Health and Wellbeing courses accredited by the Active IQ awarding body. There has always been a strong link between the Beauty, Health and Wellbeing sectors and now LCBT are in a position to bring all three together under one roof!

If this wasn't enough, LCBT are now also venturing into Apprenticeships in some varied sectors including Retail, Customer Service and Leisure Management.

The front and back cover of the 2012-13 Prospectus now also reflect the vast range of courses on offer at LCBT.

2219 File and Varnishes in 8 hours!

Last week saw us take on the huge challenge of attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the most nails filed and varnished in 8 hours!

It was a crazy day with over 300 students working over 150 nail stations from 11am - 7pm. We finally completed 2219 mini manicures on volunteer members of the public.

The event was in aid of charity and we raised a lot of money and Awaress for Rays of Sunshine and The Eve Appeal. The charity count is still ongoing so we will let you know next week what the final total is. There is still time for you to buy raffle tickets to win some amazing prizes such as these for Rays of Sunshine and these for Eve Appeal. Tickets are 50p each and can be purchased from LCBT Salon.

We also had a visit from boy band members Aston and JB from JLS who are ambassadors of Rays of Sunshine. Celebrity Nail Technician helped out in the afternoon she is pictured here with Hand Model Nina Taylor.

Andrea Fulerton is on Board to Help us Nail it!

Andrea Fulerton, Nail Technician to the stars will help London College of Beauty Therapy break a Guinness World Record™ for the most nails filed and varnished in 8 hours on 10th May 2012!

Twice Awarded “British Nail Technician of the Year” Andrea Fulerton is excited to bring back a British world record! She said, “I can’t wait to be part of LCBT’s World Record attempt. It is such a fun way to support the Nail Industry and those training to be the Nail Technicians of the future!”

Andrea has over 15 years experience in the Nail Industry and has racked up a host of awards including a CEW 2011 Acheiver Award. She has held the revered role of Global Nail Care Spokesperson for Revlon and works with clients such as Kim Cattrall, Sienna Miller, Penelope Cruz, Nigela Lawson, and Keira Knightly to name a few! Her colourful product range "Andrea Fulerton Nail Boutique" was launched in October 2010 as a one stop shop from prep to finish and can be purchased from Superdrug stores and online.

The charity world record attempt has been organised by LCBT and will be held at 47 Great Marlborough Street, London from 11am – 7pm next Thursday. Andrea Fulerton will be present at the attempt to help LCBT students become world record breakers again!

We need 3000 volunteer members of the public to receive a free mini manicure to beat an Australian organisation who beat LCBT’s previous record set in 2010. You never know you may end up with a free mini-mani from a Celebrity Nail Technician!

The record attempt is in aid of Rays of Sunshine (a wish granting charity for young people with serious or life-threatening illnesses) and The Eve Appeal (which helps the fight against gynaecological cancers).

Under 19 year olds can save £215 before the new academic year!

We have been having fun in the LCBT office this week designing our new prospectus for the 2012-13 academic year! Having spoken to lots of students (past, present and future!) we have decided to bring the look of our prospectus up to date a bit. You can look forward to some more vibrant colours and a practical handbag sized shape too. In addition to the new look and feel, you may also notice that LCBT are planning to expand and offer some brand new courses next year, but we will keep this under wraps for now!

Although we have been looking at the academic year ahead, we have not taken our eye off the remainder of the 2011-12 academic year! There are still plenty of Level 1, 2 and 3 courses scheduled before 1st August 2012 that have some places remaining. And there is good news for 16-18 year olds… If you enrol on one of these courses (before August 2012) you will be entitled to free kit, materials and uniform! This means not only will you save £215, but you will not have to pay a single penny for your course… at all!

This special offer is valid for new learners coming to LCBT, or current students wanting to progress on to the next level that have not already paid and confirmed their place on a course.

Students Raise £145 for Cancer Research UK

On Thursday 29th March group L049 successfully managed to host a charity ‘Beauty Palace’ event, based on the theme of the Monarchy, Kings and Queens from around the world with the aim to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Treatments such as manicures, facials and waxing were offered to our friends and family who came to support the event. While a wide variety of home made sweet and savoury snacks were on offer to complement the treatments.

A colourful ‘Welcome’ banner adorned the entrance, jumbo playing card decorations as bunting, bright pink balloons and pictures of the worlds Royals donned the walls, giving the salon and everyone who entered an air of prestige. The salon was completely transformed into a Beauty Palace, turning the event into a real royal affair and what kind of beauty princesses would L049 be without their sparkly crowns and pink salon uniform!

To help raise money for the charity; homemade pink iced cupcakes were sold around the college before the event and more efforts were made by visiting local business to gather donations.



L049 would like to say a big thank you to all those involved in making their Beauty Palace event such a success. "To Lisa our tutor who helped and supported us throughout. To everyone in L049 for their hard work in planning the event and through the night. Also to everyone who donated money helping us to reach an amazing £145 for Cancer Research UK."

…Start a completely free beauty course before August 2012!

For a limited time LCBT are pleased to be offering under 19 year olds completely free courses if they enrol before the new academic year in August.

Although tuition for LCBT’s Beauty Therapy NVQ’s has always been funded by the government, LCBT are now offering young people free kit, materials and uniform too! This means 16-18 year olds will save over £200 by beginning a course between April and July 2012.

LCBT understand the financial pressures that are often put on young people who attend full time education so encourage under year olds to book on to an Open Day now and enrol on a beauty course before then of the year in order to save money.

As such we have increased the number of Open Days throughout the Easter Holiday breaks to meet the demand that we expect this offer to bring with it. So call 020 7208 1300 or email info@lcbt.co.uk to book on to an Open Day which usually occur every Tuesday and Friday or on the following dates:

• Thursday 5th April at 10am 2.30pm
• Tuesday 10th April at 10am and 2.30pm

Spotlight on The Eve Appeal

1 million women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer worldwide each year. In the UK, 50 women are diagnosed and 20 die every day and yet, awareness and funding of gynaecological cancers remains low. This is why it is important to LCBT to support The Eve Appeal who are determined to change this through funding vital research focused on developing effective methods of prediction, detection, and treatment that will help save women's lives not only in the UK but throughout the world.

On 10th May 2012, LCBT will embark on the challenge to break a world record… again! LCBT are attempting to file and varnish over 3000 volunteers nails all in aid of The Eve Appeal and the wish granting charity Rays of Sunshine. We aim raise vital finds and awareness for both charities.

You are invited to LCBT on Thursday 10th May for a free mini manicure and to help us become record breakers. We will be taking donations on the day and running an incredible raffle for The Eve Appeal which already boasts some impressive prizes:
